Brian T. Hagan
Executive Vice President

Brian is responsible for middle market lending services and not-for-profit initiatives for the bank. In his 24 year tenure with First American, he has designed and implemented the analytical training program for commercial lenders and developed the tax exempt finance division. Brian has responsibility for the management of a $600,000,000 commercial loan portfolio. He is a member of the bank’s Senior and Executive Loan Committees. Additionally, as a senior executive of the bank, Brian is routinely involved with management decisions that impact operations in all areas of the bank.

Brian graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He has served on a number of charitable boards including the Finance Task Force for Community School District 205, the Institute Advisory Board for the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, the Elmhurst YMCA, Business Advisory Council of Elmhurst College, Trustee of EMH Foundation, Board member of Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare System and Chairman of the Board of Governors at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.




Steve J. Eikenberry
Senior Vice President

Steve is in charge of tax exempt finance and interest rate derivatives for the bank. He is also a member of First American’s Senior Loan Committee. Prior to joining First American in January 2005, he worked for Bank One Capital Markets and predecessor organization American National Bank since 1984. Steve has over 28 years experience marketing and originating tax exempt bonds for not-for-profit corporations and middle-market manufacturing companies, and he has completed in excess of 250 transactions totaling more than $1 billion. In addition, he has executed derivative hedging transactions including interest rate swaps, caps and collars for over 100 customers with a total notional value exceeding $800 million.

Steve’s clients include a wide variety of not-for-profit organizations including independent schools, private colleges and universities, graduate schools, social service agencies and cultural institutions. He speaks regularly at conferences on topics related to tax exempt finance and derivatives, and his comments have also been reported in publications including Business Week, The Bond Buyer and The Illinois Manufacturer. He also plays an active role lobbying for legislation expanding and enhancing the use of tax exempt bonds. 

Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The Colorado College. He is an active member of the Council of Development Finance Agencies and is a member of their Legislative Committee. 




Mark E. Kroencke
Senior Vice President

Mark is head of First American’s Not-for-Profit Banking Group and its $375,000,000 portfolio. He is a shareholder of the bank and a member of the bank’s Senior Loan Committee. Throughout his 12 years with First American Bank, he has focused on managing and building relationships with middle market, privately held companies and 501(c)(3) organizations. Mark works with a wide variety of clients, including private day schools, charter schools, specialized education, vocational and graduate schools, human service organizations, heavy metal fabricators, plastic molders, mechanical and electrical contractors, engineering firms and tool and die manufacturers.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois. He has been involved with various charitable and for-profit boards including the Ray Graham Association and Xamin, Inc. He is also a member of the Council of Development Finance Agencies.
